For you, it means one fee line per fireplace and one report to file. It also means one conversation with us, not a string of them.
What we do at each fireplace
At a Level 1 we look over the accessible parts. At a Level 2 we add a camera through the full flue, and look at the attic, crawlspace and roof sections that we can reach.
Each fireplace is photographed and written up on its own.
The report for the board
You receive one report. It lists the fireplaces by name or unit, each with its findings. It comes the same day as the inspection, with the photos.
Send it to the board, the owners or both, whatever your rules call for.
Working out the fee
We bill by the fireplace. Pick the Level 1 or Level 2 figure, then multiply by how many fireplaces you have. That gives you your own number.
Under NFPA 211, a Level 2 is called for at a sale or transfer, following a chimney blaze or a tremor, and when you swap wood for gas or the other way round. Any repair is quoted after the inspection.
Fee per fireplace
A Level 1 costs $57 per fireplace, a Level 2 costs $410 per fireplace, and a sweep starts at $230.

How should I tell residents?
Use your usual notice. Say that a chimney inspection is coming and that we may need to get into the unit or onto the roof.

The report says so, with a photo. We quote the work after the inspection, and you decide with the owner or the board.
